'Di' means of- but a contraction of-'of the house of' (as in 'de la casa de') 'Bacco' is italian for Bacchus-the Roman god of wine and merriment. So, DiBacco means- of Bacchus- (or 'of the house of Bacchus') Now, if that means that we were a bunch of partiers or such, I can't attest to. But names had to stick to families for certain reasons; e.g. Smith(blacksmith-italian Ferraro), Baker (Panetiere), Cantalamesa (sings the mass). We had a local priest , rest his soul, named Father Stabene (stay(s) well). He lived well into his nineties. And I mean he lived. He said mass every day and visited at the hospital 3-4 times a week. When he said mass at his home, afterwords, he served a meal- a big meal. I guess you can tell that he was well liked and now fondly missed. I'm digressing. Anyhow, this is my amateur take on meanings. RD
