Biomedical research is the broad area of science that looks for ways to prevent and treat diseases that cause illness and death in people and in animals. This general field of research includes many areas of both the life and physical sciences.Biomedical research is the basic research, applied research or transitional research conducted to aid the body of knowledge in the field of medicine. Medical research can be divided into two general categories:1) The evaluation of new treatments for both safety and efficacy in what are termed clinical trials,2) And all other research that contributes to the development of new treatments. The latter is termed preclinical research if its goal is specifically to elaborate knowledge for the development of new therapeutic strategies.Utilizing biotechnology techniques, biomedical researchers study biological processes and diseases with the ultimate goal of developing effective treatments and cures. Biomedical research is an evolutionary process requiring careful experimentation by many scientists, including biologists and chemists. Discovery of new medicines and therapies requires careful scientific experimentation, development, and evaluation. The Bio-Medical Engineering Research Group is part of the Biomedical and Micro Engineering Research Center. Our aims are mainly to understand the physical properties of natural and synthetic materials and to use this under-standing to design and develop medical devices. Doctor´s work to treat diseases but scientists work to cure them.Fields of biomedical research:* Neuroscience* Genetics* Virology* Cellular biology* Molecular biology* Public Health* Cancer* Aging* Endocrinology* PharmacologyThe work goes on behind the scenes in Medicine. Our laboratory course is designed to train the professionals and students to basic laboratory research, current topics and techniques in molecular biology, biotechnology and medicine and many more subjects.
